Undisclosed Dosing In Nootropics: Why Milligrams Beat Marketing
A nootropic label that names ingredients without stating per-capsule amounts tells you what is in the product but not whether there is enough of anything to matter.
This is common across the entire nootropic supplement category, not unique to any single brand — which is exactly why it is worth understanding as a buyer.
The two ways a label can name an ingredient
Quantified: listed with a stated weight, like ‘Bacopa Monnieri 300 mg’. You can compare that directly against research doses.
Named only: the ingredient appears on the label, sometimes described as ‘standardised’ or ‘clinically studied’, but with no stated weight. You know it is present. You do not know how much.
Why this is especially common in nootropics
Nootropic formulas often combine five or six active ingredients in a single capsule, and capsule size limits how much total powder can fit. Manufacturers sometimes avoid stating individual amounts so the total ingredient list looks impressive without inviting a direct comparison against published research doses for each one, which would often reveal amounts well below trial-level dosing once several ingredients share a fixed capsule volume.
What you can still do without the number
Check if a standardisation is named. ‘Standardised Bacopa extract’ is more specific than a bare ingredient name, even without a milligram figure.
Compare against typical research doses. If published trials on an ingredient generally use 300 mg and a capsule contains six active ingredients sharing perhaps 500–700 mg of total fill capacity, you can reasonably infer that few if any ingredients reach full research-level amounts.
Ask the seller directly. A direct email asking for the supplement facts panel or per-serving breakdown is a reasonable, low-effort step before ordering anything you plan to take daily for weeks or months.
